Remarkable moments during the past Fashion Weeks

Remarkable moments during the past Fashion Weeks

Silence after the fashion storm. The past couple of weeks we were swamped by the newest creations on the international catwalks. Brand after brand appeared with their own original show. There were a lot of outstanding shows and we can’t let them pass without giving our own opinion of five of the most spectacular shows!1.       Models who make #selfies on the catwalk? No, it isn’t a joke! During the Dolce & Gabbana show, the models shamelessly strutted down the catwalk while taking selfies. The show itself was an ode to Italy; prints that looked like postcards gave the show a nationalistic feel.

2.       Which images does your brain conjure when you hear “human backpack”? Probably not two models who literally carry each other as backpacks. This is what you got if you saw the Rick Owen show during Paris Fashion Week. His thoughts; old fashioned feminism about nourishment, sister- and motherhood and regeneration; women raising women, women becoming women, and women supporting women.

3.       Dior with its floral masterpiece. It took Raf Simmons and his creative team three weeks to decorate the outside of the Louvre and create a paradise of flowers. The creative idea of the Spring/Summer ’16 collection was to return to the pure in these technological times.

4.       Chanel keeps surprising us with staging extravagant shows, in the past we’ve had supermarket catwalks and casino catwalks, but last week the audience found themselves in a Chanel airport terminal. The collection had the most diverse items, but true to form; the Chantel coat stayed the same… Well maybe with some adjustments here and there like a bit of leather.

5.       Our own national pride, Iris van Herpen, closed Paris Fashion Week with a stunning show. She got ‘Game of Thrones’ actress Gwendoline Christie to model one of her creations, while it was being printed around her on the catwalk via a 3D printer. Truly mesmerizing!
